Rescue Work: Barney's Story (Pg. 2)

April 2002: After two months of soul searching, I decided to adopt Barney, which became official on April 27.  It was not a decision made lightly.  He was not at all what I had been looking for (I had searched for 8 months for an older blue female rescue to be Max’s companion, and had fostered several gray males in the interim).  But I believe the Universe sends you what you need, which may not always be what you want or what you think is in your best interests.  Barney has turned out to be quite a challenge in many ways. He has caused me to think even further outside "the box" and expand my holistic animal care knowledge as well as my understanding of canine behavior.  He is a happy guy, definitely walks to the beat of his own drum, and hasn’t met a stranger yet.  At the moments I question my sanity in adopting him (young Weims are almost always a handful!), he manages to do something that melts my heart all over again and I know he’s exactly where he needs to be.

July 31, 2002: a healthy 88 pounds, and a big goof! He was introduced to fuzzy chew toys in December by his aunt, Mary Kay Wolfshohl of Stoli’s Soap for Hope (www.weim.net/stoli/), and his favorite is Mr. Lamb, with Mr. Gorilla coming in a close second. He is a connoisseur of raw recreational beef bones – he is at his happiest on the lawn in the sun, gnawing away, or running the yard perimeter looking for squirrels and birds and mice to stalk.  He has more energy than he knows what to do with, and he delights in playing tag with my other Weim, Max. Barney still struggles with the severe intestinal damage the worms caused.  He continues on a raw food diet, but I’ve had to make modifications on a regular basis to help his guts heal and regenerate.  He is on a regimen of supplements, probiotics, homeopathy and at times Bach flower essences to assist his continuing recovery.  He doesn’t let his physical issues slow him down at all. He is a trooper!

August 2002: He has always had severe anxiety issues, and was so out of touch with his body (he could space out and disconnect in the snap of your fingers, and get glassy eyed and wild and wound up, out of control). It was sad to see, and very frustrating.  I did not always deal with it well, but finally came to a point where I knew he could not control this and needed help.  I purchased the Anxiety Wrap (www.anxietywrap.com) out of desperation. The first two times I put it on him he reacted completely different than what the manufacturers say should happen – he absolutely went nuts. I called one of the developers the first time I used it, and we worked together to help him accept the wrap.  After three times of using it, he was more connected with his body and did not spin out of control as quickly.  His anxiety will be an issue for a while, but Barney is Barney and nothing about him has been typical.

October 2002: Barney continued to have problems with his intestinal tract and foul stools. It was also difficult to keep weight on him because his metabolism was so fast. So after doing more research, and being unwilling to put one more chemical in his body (I used allopathic medication only while he was desperately ill, and even then I did so in conjunction with natural care), I started him on a regimen of OreganolTM, OregacynTM and NAHS's Oil of Cumin (see the North American Herb & Spice page under the Supplements tab). Within five days he had a normal looking, much better smelling stool. This after ten months of battling the worms with other supplements and herbs.  I was astounded, and was so impressed that I am now a distributor for these products.  While developed for humans, a number of them are safe for use in animals.

January 2003: Barney's health continued to improve. The NAHS products helped strengthen his immune system by clearing parasites from his body and cleansing his liver.  He is better able to maintain his weight, and he is a bit calmer as well.  My friend Mary Ann Bumbera (see Other Service Providers) has worked with Barney several times now, and her work has also had a positive impact on his health and well-being. She has done long distance astral body clearing and rebalancing, chakra rebalancing, and more, working alongside his personal guides during these sessions. I can always tell a difference afterwards; it helped him clear the remaining anxiety and terror he carried in his cells.
