Chatlists: General Care and Behavioral Issues

Because I work with animals from a holistic care standpoint, I am not a member of any general animal health care lists. However, I will provide information about such lists as I learn of them. Please also see the Chat Lists on the Holistic Care page.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caninearthritis/  Canine Arthritis support group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/doghealth2/   "Doghealth2 contains an exchange of information pertaining to dog health (both in pure breed and mixed breed canines of all ages), primarily regarding the use of drugs that can or have caused illness and/or death in dogs. The focus is presently on the drug Rimadyl (carprofen). However, all issues regarding dogs' health can be addressed at this site. Do you have a dog a dog with arthritis, orthopedic problems? Your Veterinarian may not be aware of the potential serious adverse side effects of Rimadyl. Many Veterinary clinics prescribe it for postoperative pain, etc. There may be safer alternatives."

Following are chatlists which deal with various types of behavioral issues. I am not a member of any of these lists, but offer them for your information and review.

Behavioral Issues

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canineaggression/ This list deals with aggression issues only, not general training.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shy-k9s/ "The shy-k9s mailing list is for the discussion of shy, fearful and/or fear-aggressive dogs and positive solutions to their problems. Topics that come up frequently are genetic factors, fear periods, the pros and cons of various training and management methods (in general as well as in the context of specific cases), identifying and interpreting certain behaviors, understanding thresholds and their significance to rehabilitation, building confidence and resilience, the fallacy that "comforting" shy dogs reinforces fear and the fallout of punishment as a teaching tool. We also discuss books, videos, seminars, food plans, and herbal and pharmacological treatments that may be helpful in modifying unwanted behavior. You are welcome to join this list if you are an owner, trainer, behaviorist, or rescue or shelter worker dealing with these traits in dogs, and are strongly encouraged to contribute your experiences, whether with your own dog or in a professional capacity."

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DogRead/  'DogRead.com Cyber Book Club'.  Workshop/seminar format, featuring a different dog related book each month, WITH the author online. NOT a general email list. Click on the link to see advance schedule of books to be discussed.
