Essential Oils

I ONLY RECOMMEND USING YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS (you'll read why below but the biggest reason is, they're therapeutic grade and can be taken internally - this can't be done with other brands, especially synthetic oils - and they have the highest percentage of pure constituents). YOUNG LIVING OILS WORK. See the end of this page for Virginia Litza's contact information. She can help you determine which Young Living essential oils are appropriate for what you or your animal friend are dealing with, and help you with purchasing them as well. Please tell her you heard about her through my website.

Virginia Litza of Spirits Whisper Acres in Illinois rehabilitates horses/dogs/cats that are “between” homes with the earth’s natural remedies and life styles. Selected herbs, Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils and subtle energy therapies are part of their journey back to health, be it physical, emotional or spiritual. One of the gifts from Mother Earth that Virginia uses is Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential oils. She is a distributor for Young Living oils and has many, many stories of how these have enhanced and even saved the lives of many animals that have come to her farm, Spirit’s Whisper Acres. The following is in her words:

“I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils 5 years ago. I purchased only one bottle of Lavender oil. Prior to this, I used essential oils from several other suppliers for 10 years, but didn’t see the results I was getting from just that one bottle of Young Living Lavender. Severe wounds healed in one quarter the time. Emotional releases for the animals came swifter and so much easier for them. When owners used the oils on their pets, the owners received the same benefits.

What are Young Living Essential Oils? Young Living essential oils are distilled from plants as subtle volatile liquid, the life-force, the regenerating and oxygenating immune defense properties of plants containing vitamins, minerals, enzymes and hormones. They are distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. Essential oils are fifty times more potent than herbs. They have a very unique lipid structure including oxygenating molecules that gives them the ability to penetrate cell membranes and transport oxygen and nutrients inside each cell of the body within only 21 minutes of their application and, in some cases, within seconds.

Essential oils help promote emotional, mental, spiritual and physical healing. Shelf life of pure essential oils is a minimum of 2000 years as shown by the oils retrieved in King Tut's Tomb. Essential oil frequencies range anywhere from 50 MHZ to 340 MHZ (Rose Oil). They have a bio-electrical frequency that is several times greater than the frequency of herbs, food and even the human body. Clinical research has shown that essential oils can quickly raise the frequency of the body, restoring it to normal healthy levels. I use these oils to enhance the body to balance itself whether it be emotional, physical or spiritual – therefore creating an environment where the body can heal itself. Every molecule of essential oils have the ability to: increase oxygenation of the cell by 21%; take nutrients into the cells; remove toxins from the cells; cross the blood/brain barrier; increase the immune system within the body. These five items give the cells the ability to balance themselves, therefore regenerate healthy cells. One drop of Therapeutic essential oil will penetrate every cell within the body within 21 minutes. As an example of the concentration of these oils, one drop of Lemon oil is equal to the rinds of 50 organic lemons.

Unlike synthetic chemicals, essential oil chemicals are diverse in their effects. No two oils are alike. Per research documentation, some constituents, such as aldehydes found in lavender and chamomile are antimicrobial and calming. Eugenol, found in cinnamon and clove, is antiseptic and stimulating. Ketones, found in lavender, hyssop and patchouli, stimulate cell regeneration and liquefy mucous. Phenols, found in oregano and thyme oil, are highly antimicrobial. Sesequiterpenes, predominate in vetiver, cedarwood and sandalwood are soothing to inflamed tissue and can also produce profound effects on emotions and hormonal balance.

Essential oils are one of the highest known sources of antioxidants that can prevent free radical damage. They also contain a bioelectric frequency that is several times greater than that of herbs and food. Thus, these oils have a profound effect of raising the frequencies of the human and animal body -- aiding in the prevention of diseases.

With all that I just mentioned, such as high frequency, high oxygenating molecules, fast delivery systems to the cells, immune-building, anti-microbial properties, etc., essential oils become a necessary adjunct to protecting our animals and ourselves against free radical damage as well as the potential dangers of our electro magnetically polluted environment.

How are the oils applied or given? For the most part on animals I suggest on the pads of the paws of dogs and cats as well as their backs. Then massage the oils in. You can follow with a warm moist towel. You can place these essential oils anywhere on the body, except the EYES and EARS. Never put essential oils in the eyes and never drop the oils down the ears. Baths are also wonderful with essential oils. Just put the oils in Epsom salts before putting into the water. Very soothing for both animals and their owners. Diffusing, with a cold air diffuser only, is an excellent way to get essential oils to more than one animal at a time. Also very good for upper respiratory items. I have several dogs, cats and birds in the house at one time. When I diffuse, all the animals as well as myself receive the benefits of a particular oil. I also give my animals Young Living Essential Oils internally when needed. Either via veggie-capsules or in a syringe with water.

[NOTE REGARDING USE ON CATS: Kat says PLEASE do not just start applying oils to your cat, especially if they are not therapeutic grade such as the Young Living oils are. Consult with Virginia (see contact info at the end of this page) for the right EO's for your cat.]

The following was prepared by Virginia:

"CATS have a higher vibration or frequency (most likely why they were worshiped in Egypt) than you or I and do not do well with lower vibrations or oils high in phenols. They need just a fraction of an amount of essential oils that a dog would. I never have a cat ingest essential oils. Only placed on the body with a carrier oil or I cold-diffuse the oils into the air.  Here in America, most essential oils (EO’s) are not therapeutic grade. Young Living EO's are therapeutic grade, which makes them extremely concentrated. LESS IS BETTER when using therapeutic grade EO's.

When a book recommends 1 to 3 drops on a human (about 150 lbs) then it only goes to say that you would use extremely less for a cat (10-15 lbs). Unless someone (such as a communicator or a Young Living EO distributor) can intuitively "ask" the cat how much can be used, I suggest individuals use a toothpick for the amount. Just dip a clean toothpick into the bottle of oil and place on the cat’s paw or skin (never in their mouths). Or place a drop of oil on the palm of your non-dominant hand - with your other hand swirl it clock-wise and then use your finger and place on the cat. If you need to dilute the oil down a bit, place a drop in 10 drops of a carrier oil like Organic Olive or the Young Living V6 carrier oil. Therapeutic grade essential oils cannot build up. It is absorbed. But carrier oils will build up. You can also use a carrier oil to dilute the oil on the skin if irritation develops (a very, very rare occurrence).

Just like a human, never drop oils in a cat's eyes or ears!!! Place a drop of oil on the palm of one hand and place oil with a finger from the other hand on the inside of the upper ear. Never down the ear.

I myself have used the Young Living EO's on cats for just about everything. I cold-air diffuse the oils every day with at least 5 to 8 cats and several dogs in the room with me. Of course there is good ventilation and they can always leave the room at will (but never do). I’ve diffused up to three times a day for kittens fighting an upper respiratory infection which the vets informed me that the kittens would have to live with the rest of their lives. Well, all are in great health today and those vets are now using the oils for the same condition.

I do caution individuals in using Young Living EO's with cats. If I feel someone will not honor the LESS IS BETTER rule I will share another modality. Some commonly known EO's not recommended to be used with cats are Tea Tree or Malaleuca, Oregano, Thyme, Clove, Mountain Savory, Cinnamon, Cassia, and Ravensara. However, I have used Young Living blends of oils with these included with no problem. But I recommend you consult with your veterinarian before using any item with your pets.

BIRDS: I have used the oils on birds by applying on their feet or moving their feathers and placing directly onto their skin.

Case examples:
I worked with one of my cats who had melanoma on her side. I dropped directly onto the spot two drops each of Frankincense and Lavender. I did this on and off for 2 weeks. In three weeks the melanoma was healed and to this day, 5 years later, she is fine. In fact she just turned 20 years old.

Kittens (15 of them) that I was informed there was nothing that could be done for their upper respiratory infections, turned around by diffusing oils in the air and applying oils that were diluted in organic carrier oils. Several blends of oils were used.

Young pigeons that had their head pecked in, down to the brain, with the application of Frankincense and Lavender directly to the brain, then skull, then skin area, it took 5 weeks to heal. It took an additional 2 months for all the feathers to return. The pigeons are out in the arena and are now parents themselves.

Animals as well as humans with severe colic (stomach ache) can have that pain released with an application of certain oils onto the stomach area as well as taken internally. I have been involved with horses with colic that was life threatening. They were walking and interested in eating within just 20 to 30 minutes after application of the oils. The Young Living essential oil blend of Di-Gize and the single oils of Peppermint and Patchouli are used.

HORSES: One horse came to me with 7 severe wounds on his legs. Some all the way to the bone. For only 2 days he was a little swollen and lame. The wounds healed within 2˝ weeks. The horse was back with his herd the day after he was injured. Lavender and Lemongrass were just two of the main oils used daily here.

I had an individual applying these oils on a horse that had extremely high blood sugars. The horse was extremely ill. The application of the oils brought the blood sugars down from 464 to 154 in two weeks. That was not the only good news, the individual applying the oils to the horse happened to be a diabetic also. He lowered his insulin usage to about half.

I have had dogs and horses that have broken bones and with the application of a oil blend called PanAWay, and single oils of Cypress, Lemongrass and Wintergreen they are walking with discomfort for about 2 to 3 weeks. I myself can share that testimony. I have broken 3 ribs and my tail bone twice. If it wasn’t for the oils, I would not have been able to take care of the farm. I did not have to take even one day off.

Essential Oils when Diffused (cold air diffuse only) will remove metallic particulates and toxins from the air, increase atmospheric oxygen, increase ozone and negative ions in the area and destroys odors.

The following was prepared by Yvonne VandeDrink, a Young Living oils distributor.

Addressing Separation Anxiety There are many reasons animals experience separation anxiety. As with anything you use therapeutic essential oils for, the purpose is to alleviate the cause, not just cover the symptoms. Essential Oils can be used to help alleviate the fear of abandonment, and to help relax the muscles and emotions. The following list reflects only a few essential oils that have been shown to ease stress and fear. These oils are best used consistently over a period of time to help the animal release fear and anxiety.

LAVENDER is a universal oil that has traditionally been known to balance the body and to work wherever there is a need. Lavender works well on both the physical and emotional level. Animals who suffer from anxiety tend to "work themselves up", sometimes to the point of causing physical issues. Lavender works wonderfully for relieving tensions, especially in muscles and emotions! Lavender is a must.

VETIVER is a calming oil with a heavy smokey fragrance that most animals love. Because of its psychologically grounding, calming and stabilizing properties, Vetiver has been valuable for relieving stress and helping animals and humans recover from emotional traumas and shock. It is known as a natural tranquilizer.

CEDARWOOD Animals in the wild, at night, lay under the tree for the protection, recharging and rejuvenation the tree brings them. This essential oil is also known to help calm the emotions while helping to bring clarity of thought.

VALERIAN has served for thousands of years as a sedative. There is evidence that it calms the brain, reduces anxiety, relieves stress and even relaxes muscles. The results of one study conducted in 1993 showed valerian is calming to the central nervous system and reduces depression and anxiety. Valerian is best used before leaving your animal, this may help to calm them and possibly allow them to accept the situation without fear.
GROUNDING is an oil blend that may help to stabilize and ground animals in order to deal with reality in a logical, peaceful manner. When an animal is overcome with anxiety, they can sometimes lose touch with reality. This blend can help them to adjust to their situation with ease.

ROMAN CHAMOMILE was traditionally used by ancient Romans to give them a clear mind and to empower them with courage for there battles. For centuries mothers have used chamomile to calm crying children. Also, because it is calming and relaxing, it can combat depression and stress. It also eliminates some of the emotional charge of anxiety, irritability and nervousness. It may also dispel anger and stabilize the emotions, and help to release emotions linked to the past. This oil is a great tool to have on hand when dealing with an over-excited or nervous animal.

PEACE & CALMING is a blend of oils that have been historically used to help reduce depression, anxiety, stress and tension. May promote relaxation and peace as well as it may be effective for dealing with various problems relating to the nervous system and to emotional balance. This oil works wonderfully via simple inhalation. Just diffusing this oil in the place your pet is going to stay may help to reduce their anxiety.

Kat says: I am most impressed with what Young Living essential oils can do, I've seen them work on my animals and myself for a variety of issues and situations. I don’t get much noticeable response/improvement using other brands.
