Acupuncture Acupuncture
has been around for thousands of years and involves the use of very fine
needles inserted at specific points of the body along energy meridian lines,
to reactivate or realign chi (life force) so that it flows smoothly through
the body. Very helpful for health issues such as arthritis, IBD, pain and
more. For an introduction to veterinary acupuncture, see

Veterinary Institute for Integrative Medicine's article. The Institute has an extensive database of holistic care practitioners at
http://www.viim.org/findvets/vetlist.asp. Kinesiology, or muscle
testing, is a precise method of asking the body questions about health
conditions and what supplements, remedies, etc. would be effective for
treating same. Ask at your vet clinic if they, or someone they know,
uses kinesiology with animals. Often chiropractors use this method in their
practice. You will also find detailed information and diagrams about using
kinesiology with your pets to ask health and other questions of their bodies
in Diane Stein's Natural Healing for Dogs and Cats (can be found on

Gold Bead Implants:
Some acupuncturists are trained in the placement (insertion) of gold
beads (tiny magnets covered in gold) under the skin at meridian points. This
has been used with success in animals with Wobbler's syndrome, arthritis,
hip dysplasia, chronic pain and many other ailments. Please see

Bowen Touch Balancing
http://www.animalconnectionnetwork.com/205389/pages.htm From Carol
Bennett’s site: “Animal Bowen® Touch Balancing is an adaptation of the
Bowen/Bowtech Technique to the physiology and anatomy of animals. As
developed and taught by Carol Bennett, the purpose of this technique is to
relax inappropriate muscle tension which can be the cause of an animal's
poor performance, or the beginning of a more serious health challenge and to
facilitate balance of the body. As stated in the BOWEN HANDS, the official
publication of the Bowen Academy of Australia, By Dr. Portia Reading:
* Animals treated with the Bowen Technique
show a general improvement in well-being and can show relief from signs such
as lameness, malaise, digestive problems, allergies, skin conditions, etc.
* The gentle moves on soft tissue appear to
restore balance to musculoskeletal, autonomic and meridian systems equally
for humans and animals.
* Bowtech for animals appears to also produce
an integrated response, improving circulation, lymphatic and venous drainage
and helping in the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.
Sometimes it's easier to explain this technique by stating what is not!
Bowtech is not Massage - Rubbing or even prolonged palpation around a Bowen
move can weaken the effect. The moves go no deeper than fascia on
superficially accessible muscles, and only with gentle pressure.
Bowtech is not Acupressure - Some of the areas of focus will coincide with
acupuncture points, but there are so many acupoints that some overlap does
occur. With Bowen "points" however, one simple move across the structure is
all it takes.
Bowtech is not Chiropractic - No manipulation of the skeletal system is
made. Most practitioners and many clients observe vertebral movement, but
this is evidence of the body realigning itself and a Bowen treatment
working.
Bowtech is not Direction "Energy Work" - Given its parameters, even energy
work can be intrusive. Practitioners can focus too much on accomplishing
their own desired results which may or may not coincide with the client's
needs. Instead, practitioners are taught to focus only on doing a precise
movement accurately, and then physically leaving the room.
Bowtech is not Physiotherapy or Neuromuscular "Re-Education" - Stretch
reflex, Golgi reflex and reciprocal enervation may be involved in the
muscular release, but these occur on a cellular level and expand out
physically. In fact people may fall asleep during a session and may not feel
the effects for several days. These factors distinguish Bowtech from
remedial exercises or movement training that some people need for long-term
injury recovery.
Bowtech is not Trigger-Point Therapy - Some points are unavoidably similar
even though the referral zones are different. Most trigger points are found
in the core of muscles, while Bowtech muscle moves are usually made where
two muscles or muscle groups overlap. This and other factors seem to make
Bowtech most similar to fascia work but...
Bowtech is not Fascia Release - With each Bowen move, the fascia is rocked
and minutely "disturbed", but not forcefully separated. After a series of
Bowtech sessions, adhesions tend to loosen, scar tissue frequently softening
and shrinking on its own, because impediments to the natural healing process
are removed.
Bowtech is not Lymphatic Massage - Bowtech does stimulate lymphatic
releases, in that sinuses will often drain during sessions; breast lumps may
shrink or be gone within a few weeks, and excess fluids are usually
eliminated within the week. Bowtech does not, however, use the percussion or
vigorous stroking of lymphatic massage, although there is a bit of gentle
teasing done around the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM).
Bowtech is not an Emotion Release Modality - The intent of a Bowtech session
is not to effect emotional release. However, some people report dramatic
lightening of spirit and a subtle but pervasive refocusing of troublesome
emotional patterns. Many body workers consciously focus on the interface
between physical and emotional, trying to touch on that which is hidden
behind a protective wall of hyper tense musculature. Excessive pressure is
not needed. Bowen confirms that the best access is gained by the least
threatening approach.

Energy Patch
Nanotechnology Energy Patch "Hi Kat! You asked on one
page that if anyone knew of other treatments, to let you know. There is a
new nanotechnology energy patch that was originally developed for use by
Navy Seals but recent studies have shown WONDERFUL results on horses. It is
a totally non-transdermal patch that acts like an antenna to signal the
brain to produce more energy, strength, stamina, and mental focus. We have
several well-known equine acupuncturists using the patches on horses and
finding that the results far surpass what they are getting with traditional
acupuncture - more immediate, longer lasting, with better results. I would
be very happy to forward emails to you about their experiences and/or
connect you with them so you could talk with them. One vet in CA has had
tremendous results with geriatric horses and with back problems. Another vet
in FL has told us about a point on the spine just above the tail that will
calm a horse. My daughter does barrel racing etc in 4H and her horse gets SO
excited about it that we've tried the patch and it works beautifully to calm
her (the horse) enough to where she listens much better. It does not zap her
energy, just helps her to calm down and focus. A trainer friend of ours has
had the same results on horses that she is training. One of the scientists
involved had a trainer friend try them on his racehorse. The horse was a
15-1 odds and won the race by two lengths and beat it's personal best time
by 2.5 seconds. The testimonies go on and on and we've only just touched the
tip of the iceberg. The best thing is that nothing at all enters the body.
Also, I have spectravision results on a man showing the tremendous
difference in the energy in his organs just five minutes after applying the
patches. Just let me know and I will email it to you. Professional athletes
have been using the patches for a few years but it just went mainstream
about two months ago. Every testimony I have heard is good and the more I
learn about the patches and hear about new studies, the more excited I am
about their potential for humans, horses, dogs, .....anything that lives and
breathes! My website is
www.lifewave.com/carpevita. There is a short movie there that explains a
lot as well as written testimonies, the science behind it etc. You can reach

Healing Touch for
Animals/Komitor Healing Method, Inc.
www.healingtouchforanimals.com A program created by Carol Komitor
which is taught throughout North America including Canada. From the
website: "Healing
Touch for Animals is an energy-medicine modality combining philosophies,
techniques and applications to promote energy balance and healing of our
animals. This program introduces holistic concepts to assist with injuries,
illness, surgeries, wound healing, behavioral problems and stress related
issues. See our online Fact Sheet called
"Frequently Asked
Questions."
HTA/KHM uses bio-field
therapies – recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – to
integrate, balance and clear the energy body. It works by releasing
endorphins to establish a deeper relaxation and state of being, allowing the
body to function at a greater level. By allowing muscles to relax,
circulation is increased, sending more oxygen, nutrients, and hormones into
the body to support healing. HTA/KHM works on all levels of the body:
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. These techniques allow the
animals to come into a deeper instinctual presence and knowing of their
body.
These techniques are
largely based on Healing Touch for humans. The energy-based modality of
Healing Touch has been recognized throughout the human medical community
since 1989 and is used by more than 75,000 healthcare practitioners
worldwide to help provide whole body wellness. These techniques are designed
to enhance the healing process and do not replace traditional medical or
veterinary healthcare, medical diagnosis, or medical treatment for illness.
HTA practitioners do not provide medical diagnosis, prescribe medications or
perform surgery. Refer to a licensed medical or veterinary practitioner for
medical care.
Since its founding in 1996,
Healing Touch for Animals/Komitor Healing Method (HTA/KHM) has been taught
throughout the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.
Read about the first workshop taught in 1996. The
techniques are designed to enhance the healing process and do not replace
traditional medicine or veterinary healthcare. The techniques promote a
beneficial way to blend holistic healthcare and traditional medicine." For

Quantum Touch
http://www.quantumtouch.com/
Richard Gordon, Author of Quantum-Touch: The
Power to Heal", and "Your Healing Hands
- The Polarity Experience" the best-selling book now in 9
languages. From the site: "Over the past eight years, I have taught
Quantum-Touch to well over 4000 people. Without exception, professional
practitioners of the various modalities have told me that this work can be
combined with and in most cases has transformed their practice. This list
includes chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists, acupuncturists,
cranial sacral therapists, chi gung instructors, and reiki practitioners, to
name but a few. In principal the Quantum-Touch practitioner learns to
focus and amplify life-force energy, which is most often referred to as
“Chi” or “Prana”. This is accomplished by combining various breathing and
body awareness exercises. When the practitioner holds a high vibrational
field of life-force energy around an affected area, through a process of
resonance and entrainment, the client naturally matches the vibration of the
practitioner, allowing one’s own biological intelligence to do whatever
healing it deems necessary. I believe that all healing is
self-healing, and thus, my favorite definition of a healer is someone who
was sick and got well; a great healer is someone who was very sick and got
well quickly. As long as Quantum-Touch breathing and body awareness
exercises are employed, the practitioner never becomes drained in the
process. As Jerry Pittman, M.D., wrote, “In its elegance, Quantum-Touch
provides healing bioenergy for the healer as well as for the person seeking
healing.” The techniques used in Quantum-Touch are basic human skills
that can be easily learned by young children and older adults. It does not
require that anyone change any of his or her beliefs." Quantum-Touch is
powerful because it works with breath to get energy moving; it's a Reiki or
Healing Touch enhancer, as well as a powerful healing tool by itself.
One practitioner I highly
recommend is Mary Ann Bumbera in Gurnee, Illinois. She can be reached at

TTouch
Developed by Linda Tellington-Jones, the Tellington TTouch Equine Awareness
Method and Tellington TTouch program have changed the way animals are
treated physically, and is a gentle, non-invasive hands-on procedure which
reduces stress, anxiety, pain, etc. See
www.ttouch.com for more information and

Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM)
An analogy as to why VOM works is to think of the circuit breakers in your
home. If the breaker has been "flipped off" because of an "injury" to your
home (lightning strike), your electric goes off. It is not gone, just
temporarily shut down. By flipping the breaker back on, the light works
again. So it is with the V.O.M. method, the activator device "flips on" the
switch in the spinal cord, and neurological current flows again.

A Brief Introduction to Energy Work
I am a Reiki Master, an Angel Healer (working
with energies of the angelic realm), and am also trained in a process called
Emotional Release Intensive. AH and ERI are not mainstream; I learned those
healing arts as part of my training and ordination through International
Angel Ministries. I don't follow any specific process now, I just follow my
intuition regarding what is most appropriate and helpful. When counseling
people about their animals, I often will say something that helps the person
who is dealing with a troubling issue move forward to the next step.
One night while Barney was so ill (see
Barney's Story), I spent about 15 minutes moving my hands over his
body, from head to tail, and doing a circular motion like I was rolling up a
ball of yarn hand over hand. My hands moved of their own accord, I did not
"think" about what I was doing or why. I just followed my instincts.
What I picked up from him was a feeling that he was wrapped up in a sticky
energy, like cobwebs-- very strong, but very light. He breathed easier
afterwards. There were also times I would find myself doing small circles on
his skin (a basic TTouch move) and not realize I was doing it, while reading
a book for instance. I called on angels, guardians, guides, St. Francis of
Assisi (the Patron Saint of Animals) and other benevolent beings to assist
with his healing and clearing process, both while I was working on him and
when I was not. Barney is a completely different dog now than the one I
rescued in December 2001. At times he presents me with health challenges and
behavioral issues for my learning. He is quite the Master Teacher.
I believe having an intent to do good is the most important part of any type
of healing work, animal communication, etc. Having and holding that intent,
while not imposing your will that the person or animal be healed (sometimes
they're not ready, and it's never right to try to do that if they're not
willing), creates an energy of itself, which assists and supports the work
you then do, whatever it may be.
"How did you become interested in energy work, and what is the best way
to go about learning this practice?" There is no “best” way. Follow
where you're led, and trust that the timing is always perfect and things are
always as they should be, even if it's not as we want it to be at that time.
If learning Reiki, Quantum Touch, Regenesis or another healing energy
technique feels right for you, follow that instinct. Be careful not to focus
so closely on a particular healing modality that you miss opportunities to
do other forms of healing work that will complement what you’re learning or
using at a given time. This energy builds upon itself if you choose to
pursue it. The Universe will present you with options and opportunities that
may cost less, get you doing healing work sooner, put you in contact with
people who can help you explore this path, or help you open up further so
you can easily attune to Reiki or other healing energies. There is a
synchronicity to the Universe . . . everything happens in its time, and as
it is meant to be. Follow the flow of your path, don't force it. If learning
an energy healing technique seems the right next step for you, by all means
pursue that. But also look for other avenues/channels to get where you want
to go on your life path, and be open to that happening as the timing is
right. I deeply wanted the animal connection to open up again -- I shut it
down for about four years after my horse died -- but it didn't come back
until I was truly ready to handle working with animal energy. Over the years
I’ve taken many metaphysical courses and workshops, and met very interesting
people along the way. For several years I wondered what all of these
experiences had to do with each other. When the animal connection opened up
again, it suddenly became clear to me exactly how all of my training and
experiences tie together so that I can do the work I do. It was a long wait,
but well worth it.
If you’re interested in pursuing energy work, psychic abilities, etc., visit
a metaphysical bookstore. Often they have energy healers and psychics
working there who teach classes in many different subjects. These are great
for further exploring and expanding into your healing work. Check out books
available through Amazon.com as well. If you purchase books by linking
